What is Easter?

The Easter Weekend consists of Holy Saturday which sometimes referred to as Easter eve or Black Saturday and Easter Sunday which is also called as Resurrection Day or simple Easter. Holy Saturday is celebrated as the last day of lent and also the last day of the holy week when Christians prepare for the festivities of Easter. It celebrates the one full day that body of Jesus Christ laid in the tomb. It should not be confused with Easter Saturday i.e is used to refer to the Easter Saturday in Easter week.

According to the Canonical gospels, Easter Sunday is the day on which Lord Jesus rose again from the grave after his crucifixion on Good Friday. It celebrates his resurrection and most essential festival of the Western Christian year. Easter Sunday is the culmination of Holy week and also the first day of Easter week as well as the first day of Eastertide.

The Friday preceding Easter weekend, called Good Friday, which is a public holiday in some countries with Christians traditions and the Monday following the Easter weekend is Easter Monday, is also a public holiday in most Christian countries, hence creating an extra long weekend.

Easter Weekend 2017 starts on Saturday, 15th of April, 2017 and ends on Sunday April 16th, 2017.

Easter Celebration has always been synonymous with merry-making and entertainment. According to the Christian belief, it is a day of immense joy and celebration to memorialize that Jesus Christ rises. Many Christian worldwide celebrates this auspicious eve with full spirit by attending church services, music, flowers, the ringing of church bells and candlelight.
